Factors That Impact a Chihuahua’s Lifespan:
- Diet – A Chihuahua’s diet will directly impact their lifespan. Owners should feed their furry four-legged friends nutritious, well-balanced, premium dog food with no fillers, preservatives, or artificial flavors. Avoid feeding your Livie Chihuahua leftover dinner scraps, leading to obesity, toxicosis, and other health problems.
- Weight—Weight has an equally significant impact on a Chihuahua’s longevity. Obese Chihuahuas are more likely to develop diabetes and cardiovascular disease, among other harmful health issues that could shorten their typical lifespan. A weaker immune system and malnutrition may result in a shorter average lifetime for underweight Chis.
- Healthcare – It should not be surprising that a Chihuahua’s’ lifetime is also influenced by healthcare. Regular veterinary examinations will help them live a long, healthy life by identifying diseases before they develop into serious conditions. According to most veterinarians, adult Chihuahuas between 7 and 10 should have a wellness examination once a year. However, you should take your senior teacup Chihuahua for a wellness check twice a year if they are older than ten.
- Genetics – “Good genes” can lengthen a Chihuahua’s lifespan, so it’s important to pay close attention to a pup’s parents if you want to adopt. If the parents are healthy, energetic, and happy, their pups are likelier to live a long and healthy life.
- Spaying/neutering – Spayed and neutered Chihuahuas typically have longer lifespans than unfixed males. They are less likely to acquire testicular and prostate cancers if they are neutered before the age of one year. In contrast, female Chis are less likely to develop ovarian and uterine cancers if they are fixed before their first heat cycle. Of course, spaying and neutering a Chihuahua for sale has additional health advantages, like decreased aggression, a decreased chance of escaping, and fewer puppies ending up in the pound.
- Vaccinations—Teacup Chihuahua puppies require vaccinations and follow-up booster shots to protect against potentially life-threatening diseases like parvovirus, Leptospirosis, Bordetella bronchiseptica (kennel cough), canine influenza, distemper, and rabies.
- Oral Care – Teacup chihuahua puppies for sale are susceptible to dental issues such as gum disease, tooth decay, and tooth loss, just like most petite breeds. According to some research, up to 90% of Chihuahuas may develop dental issues. Your Chihuahua’s lifespan may be shortened if you let them have dental problems. Gingivitis-induced bleeding of the gums allows bacteria to enter the bloodstream, immediately going to the heart and kidneys.
- Gender – Statistically speaking, females live longer than their male counterparts. The exact cause of this longer average lifespan is unknown, but studies suggest female Chihuahuas live 1 to 2 years longer than males.
- Activity Levels—Maintaining an active lifestyle is essential to buy teacup Chihuahua for long-term health. Give your Chi lots of exercise daily, whether via games like fetcit’sug-of-war (with a toy) or a stroll around the neighborhood. By doing this, your Chi can prolong its average lifespan by burning excess fat, gaining muscle, fortifying its immune system, and preventing disease.
